Scaff Lamp

£40.00

The Scaff Lamp is a pendant lamp made of 100% reclaimed aluminium scaffolding offcuts, sourced from museum installations. The fitting inside is a new, UKCA certified light fitting, and it’s supplied with a 4W LED bulb.

The lamp was made as part of the Circular Economy School: a new programme in Park Royal, where local young people can learn how to make sustainable products from waste materials – and gain real skills they need for careers in the circular economy.

It was designed and made by Anas Jimaale, Lotte de Kruijff and Milans Kleins, in workshops led by Absolute Beginners. All the young people were paid London Living Wage for their time on the project.

The young people learnt to cut and file the scaffolding with hand tools; drill the holes with a pillar drill; polish it by hand; and etch it with a Dremel. We estimate that each lamp created less than 10g of CO2 in its production (not including the fitting).

The Circular Economy School is run by Absolute Beginners, Recollective and Rescued Clay, three social enterprises based in Minerva Works, and is funded by the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. The workshops to produce this lamp were led by Tom James and Shanayah Dadral.
